Join the switch off for E-day

Homes, offices and schools up and down the country are to participate in a national energy-saving event tomorrow.

Energy Saving Day (E-Day), is an initiative encouraging people to switch off electrical items which are not in use - cutting their daily usage.

As well as raising awareness of climate change, consumers will also save money on their utilities bills through cutting down on their energy use.

Continuing such practices in the long term would leave more funds for householders to pay off their mortgages, home loans and personal loans.

Dr Matt Prescott, the founder of E-Day, commented: "We have 70 per cent of the public saying they accept climate change and wanting to do something about it; but almost everybody feels powerless, and I wanted to find a way of making people feel powerful and that they could change something."

Firms already signed up to E-day include energy firms such as EDF and npower, Tesco and charities Greenpeace, the National Trust and Christian Aid.
