Defaqto: Cards not such a bad deal
Researchers at Defaqto have made recommendations to consumers regarding the credit card sector.
Despite recent negative publicity about the cards, including Egg's decision to cut off 161,000 of its own customers, the firm said that good deals remained on the market.
Defaqto advised that many cards offer particular advantages in the form or rewards such as air miles and cashback.
Singled out for special praise was Abbey's cashback card - which offers five per cent back for every £1,000 spent at supermarkets for a limited period.
Citibank's Shell MasterCard was also cited by the firm as offering the 'best deal' for motorists.
Principal banking consultant at Defaqto David Black said: "There are a variety of reward based credit card schemes and these include points schemes, air miles and cashbacks.
"Some of them can be very difficult to compare and, certainly in the case of cashbacks, it's worth reviewing whats available on a regular basis, as the best offers often gain that position by virtue of a short-term introductory enhanced rate."
