We could propose on leap day, women say
Many British women are set to follow tradition - and pop the question this leap day.
A poll from Alliance & Leicester found that almost one-third (29 per cent) of British women would be prepared to get down on one knee.
Contrary to stereotype, men appear to be more likely to find it 'acceptable' for a woman to propose than women themselves do!
Although 88 per cent of Britons told Alliance & Leicester that they had no problem with the leap day proposals, other concerns about weddings emerged from the research.
The personal loans provider found that the ceremonies actually cost 22 per cent more than what poll respondents expected them to - a potentially crippling budget shortfall.
Richard Al-Dabbagh, head of personal loans at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Love is in the air, but so is inflation - the cost of a modern wedding continues to rise, and whilst a wedding should be the most important and enjoyable day of your life, it does come with a hefty price tag attached."
He added: "Getting the finances right is probably just as important as the choice of reception venue, entertainment or even the rings: that is why it is essential that you budget well, and if you are borrowing money for part of it, a low-rate personal loan is a sensible way to finance your special day."
