Household bills 'on the rise'
Costs of mortgage and loan repayments, tax and utility bills average out at over £40 per day for British families, a new study from Citizens Advice has shown.
Households were found to be paying bills worth almost £15,000 per year - of which some £12,000 is made up of mortgage payments.
Elsewhere, insurance and utilities came to £3,426 on average.
The total bill cost was also found by Citizens Advice to be up around £6,000 over 2003.
According to the charity, people contacting them with concerns about their bills are on the rise - with council tax worries going up by 25 per cent over the past year.
Moira Haynes at Citizens Advice commented: "Our debt inquiry figures suggest that growing numbers of people are not only finding themselves over-committed on credit cards, loans and overdrafts, but are also struggling to meet day-to-day living expenses.
"Any increases in household bills are going to add to the pressure on people whose finances are already stretched to the limit."
