Nationwide admits to cash machine blunder
A current accounts error, which saw many customers of the Northern Bank withdraw funds which were not debited for, has resulted in around £375,000 of misplaced funds.
Nationwide - which runs Northern Bank - said that 7,500 people withdrew unaccounted-for cash between November 2007 and last month.
The money will now be debited from all accounts on March 10th, the bank said.
Customers whose debited funds will take them past their overdraft limits are also not to be hit by penalty fees.
Area director at Nationwide Jay Colville commented: "I would just like to apologise to all the customers affected. We do recognise it is our mistake [and] we won't charge people for this event."
According to the bank, the incorrect debits stem from an IT error stemming from an upgrade of its ATM network last year.
All customers affected have been notified of the situation by letter.
