Brits 'looking to invest in markets'
The turbulence on the global stock markets might have led to nervous lenders making high street mortgages and personal loans harder to come by.
However, some savvy consumers are taking advantage of the crisis - by dabbling in shares investment.
According to a new study from Abbey, 6.6 million Britons are mulling over whether or not to put money into equities, along with the 15 million who have already dabbled in the markets.
The research also revealed that 56 per cent of poll respondents would be "more likely" to invest in the markets if they had a guarantee of financial protection against falling markets.
However, just 44 per cent were aware that such products were already on offer from several financial firms.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "Guaranteed investments offer the potential for higher returns based on stock market growth, but also provide capital protection against a further market downturn."
He added: "We believe [they are] a great way to maximise tax free savings allowances and gain access to potentially high stock market returns."
