Student rental market 'set to grow' thanks to government plans
Buy-to-let investors will be celebrating the government's recent announcement of plans to build 20 new university campuses in Britain, the National Landlords Association (NLA) has said.
The new policy was announced by universities secretary John Denham earlier this week, when he launched the New University Challenge consultation.
According to the minister, the new institutions might all be built within six years - and could hold as much as 10,000 students.
Student rentals are generally one of the prime targets for buy-to-let entrepreneurs in cities.
NLA vice chair John Socha commented: "For those landlords who specialise in students, this is good news.
"If [the new universities] are not already [in] student towns, then it will be interesting times [there] will be a long-term market for those that want to stay with it."
Mr Socha added that one of the prime attractions which the student market held for landlords was its inherent stability.
"There's a regular flow [of tenants] every year," he explained.
