eWise launches new internet shopping tool
Consumers need to know more about how to keep their personal details safe online, eWise Systems suggested yesterday.
According to the firm, which has just launched its own online payments system, internet fraud remains a big risk for people entering their card details on websites in order to buy goods.
Managing director at eWise Mark Matthews pointed out that most payment methods require customers to enter their details on the shopping site itself, rather than managing the transaction through their internet banking.
He added: "[With our system] instead of entering your card details, we are alleviating that risk for the consumer.
"We take the consumer to their bank site so they self-authenticate against the bank. We're taking them to a trusted financial portal."
Figures from payments association Apacs recently revealed that around 15 million Britons - one in four of the total population - regularly shop online.
One quarter of this total was found to have not taken steps to ensure that the sites they bought goods from were "safe and secure".
