Advice available to pensioners
Advice and support is available to pensioners who are struggling financially, a charity has said.
Citizen's Advice has said that many older people may not be aware that they qualify for certain benefits.
These benefits could be hugely important at a time when the economic climate is growing increasingly hostile.
"With higher council tax bills dropping through many peoples letterboxes on top of huge hikes in the price of gas, electricity and other household bills, many pensioners are finding it increasingly hard to make ends meet," said Citizen's Advice director of policy, Teresa Perchard.
"Yet billions of pounds that should be helping them is going unclaimed every year.
"Too many pensioners are missing out on money that is rightfully theirs," she added.
Energy bills are thought to have increased by 15 per cent this year, putting real pressure on pensioners and others on fixed incomes.
