Potholes leave drivers out of pocket
Drivers could be facing large repair bills because of the state of Britain's roads.
That is the warning from breakdown insurer Warranty Direct, which has said that up to six million cars are on the road despite having suffered pothole damage.
Their owners are likely to be unaware that there is a problem until they take their car in to be serviced.
"An increasing number of motorists are only discovering the kind of faults directly attributable to poor roads during an annual service or MoT," said Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director of Warranty Direct.
"That's an alarming state of affairs given the potential danger of failures like wheel bearings, tyres and steering racks."
Badly maintained roads can damage vehicles and cause accidents, leading to otherwise unnecessary insurance claims.
