TCPA: Homes with gardens attract people
Having an attractive green space around a new-build property is very important to homebuyers, the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) said yesterday.
According to the organisation's communications manager Kate Henderson, the provision of gardens is also important for the environment as a whole.
Landscaping an attractive garden - a home improvement often paid for by a loan - has long been used by those trying to sell their home as a way of adding value.
The government is planning several major homebuilding schemes involving the reclamation of brownfield land, including the landmark Thames Gateway project to the east of London.
Ms Henderson commented: "Homes with gardens attract people. Green space is not only important in creating desirable housing, it is also integral to more environmental design."
She added: "We must positively plan communities which are viable and sustainable socially, economically and environmentally."
TCPA is a campaigning group, aiming to push through reforms of the planning system to promote sustainable development.
