Mortgage queries on the up with Citizens Advice
More and more Britons are seeking debt help from Citizens Advice, the BBC reports.
The broadcaster conducted a poll of around 300 bureaux - and found that 35 per cent more people were using the service to find help for mortgage problems over the past 12 months.
Increasing inflation and home loans firms withdrawing low lending rates in the wake of the credit crunch have been blamed for this trend.
The BBC poll also found that around one third of new problems brought before Citizens Advice concerned debt.
Teresa Perchard, Citizens Advice director of policy, said: "It is a worrying trend that our bureaux are reporting very sharp increase in the number of mortgage arrears problems they are dealing with.
"The combination of big increases in household bills, especially fuel, and rising housing costs is putting additional pressure on people's finances when they are already stretched to the limit."
