'We can reduce bills by £1,500'
Consumers can cut their household bills by up to £1,500 through shopping around for the best deal, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Costs including utilities and council tax will increase by over eight per cent this year - with food costs also on the up by 17 per cent.
The newspaper advises that householders should also check to see whether or not they are missing out on unclaimed benefits.
Maximising tax-free ISA savings, cutting down on pricy takeaway meals and cancelling unused gym memberships were also highly recommended.
Householders can save around £825 on portion control for food alone - with figures cited by the newspaper showing that people throw away around one third of food that they buy.
Improving insulation in roofs can cut heating bills, the newspaper advised - and using price comparison sites to find the cheapest insurance offers can also led to savings.
