Legal & General finds changing home life
British table manners appear to be on the decline, insurer Legal & General has noted.
Traditional etiquette is being disregarded, with 21 per cent talking with their mouth full and 35 per cent put ting their elbows on the table.
According to the firm, 44 per cent of Britons sit down to eat with the TV still on - and ten per cent even use their mobile phone to text and take calls during meal times.
The insurance provider also found that around one-third of people now refer to their living room as the 'TV room' - a further sign that electronic devices are reshaping general attitudes to home life.
Head of communications at Legal & General Ruth Wilkins said: "Changes in technology and household entertainment are impacting the way people behave and interact in their home. This research shows how technology at the meal table is influencing traditional British table manners.
"Legal & General is committed to understanding the changing ways in which Britons use their homes in order to develop products tailored to the needs of the modern household."
