Saga: DIY on the wane
DIY home improvement jobs - which are often funded by an unsecured loan - are passing out of fashion, a new study from Saga Home Insurance appears to show.
The insurer's new survey showed that the majority of British householders now rely on tradesmen, partners or family members to do the work.
Saga Home Insurance also found that men were around twice as likely than women to injure themselves while doing DIY work.
Regionally, the highest proportion of home improvement accidents occurred in Wales, followed by the south west.
"Saga Home Insurance advises DIY enthusiasts to make sure they do not try any jobs unless they feel they can do them and to always take their time wearing suitable clothing and footwear," the firm said in a statement.
"[They should] check they have full accidental damage cover added to their buildings and contents insurance just in case they do make any mistakes!"
