Website reveals home insurance shortfall
One quarter of Britons are not adequately covered by their home contents insurance policies, research from Confused.com has revealed.
The warning was made in advance of the Easter weekend - which will see many homes left empty and vulnerable as owners take a mini-break.
Confused.com also advised consumers yesterday to make sure that they shopped around for the best home insurance deal - as cover could prove costly.
Managing director of the website Debra Williams commented: "Contents insurance is not a legal requirement, but should really be considered an absolute necessity - many people decide against contents cover without considering the potential pitfalls involved.
"Even the most obvious precautions, such as remembering not to 'advertise' your new plasma screen TV by leaving the box outside your front door, or remembering to properly lock up when leaving the home, can sometimes fall by the wayside."
She added: "It is for this reason that belongings need to be adequately covered."
