Majority 'still oppose' congestion charge
London's congestion charge is still widely unpopular among the capital's residents, car insurance provider Admiral has revealed.
However, the firm claimed that the split, which sees 55 per cent against the levy and 44 per cent for it, is surprisingly even.
Admiral managing director, Sue Longthorn said, "It's interesting to see that only slightly more people are against the charge than for it as you'd imagine the negative feeling towards it to be much higher."
The survey also found that a majority - 53 per cent - feel that the charge has stopped people using their cars in the city centre, which was one of the policy's original aims when it was introduced in 2003.
When asked if the levy should be applied to other towns and cities in the UK, 66 per cent said that it should not.
Admiral surveyed over 500 Londoners over the course of its research.
