Mini drivers 'more sociable'
As well as offering good environmental credentials and an iconic design, car loans borrowers were given another reason to own a Mini this week.
A new poll, conducted by Carcraft, has found that owners of Mini Coopers are an unusually sociable group.
The car retailer monitored advice groups set up for owners of a particular vehicle on social networking site Facebook - and found that more than 20,000 Mini drivers had joined over 300 communities, more than drivers of any other car.
Barry Nightingale, managing director at Carcraft, said: "It is interesting to see that cars are not only viewed as a symbol of wealth and status but they are increasingly becoming a crucial part of people's identity and social life. This is reflected online with large numbers using sites such as Facebook to network with like-minded drivers.
"The website is even encouraging the trend by introducing a 'garage' application, which allows users to publish the make and model of their car on their personal profile page."
Facebook is currently the sixth most popular site on the web - and retains over 61 million active users worldwide.
