Trisha: I cashed in on my customised motor
Chat show icon Trisha Goddard has revealed a surprising financial secret: she customises her cars and sells them on for a profit.
The crafty hostess told the Daily Mail that, while living in Australia in the 1980s, she sold on a VW for a 150 per cent mark-up.
"I took the roof off to make it into a convertible, repainted it lilac and put in mad, paisley seats - it cost me $6,000. I had it photographed and put on the front of a motoring magazine, then sold it for $9,000 three years later in 1989."
She added: "I told buyers it was: 'As seen on the cover of motoring magazines.'"
Ms Goddard then revealed that the car customisation habit has proved hard to break.
"I've got three cars: a Mini, a Jag X10 convertible and a V8 Discovery," she said.
"They're all unique because I customise them very classily."
A report form analysts at uSwitch revealed last month that, on average, the current ten best-selling cars in the UK depreciate in value by 43 per cent a year after purchase if bought new.
