One in five 'could drop out of housing market'
Around one in five home movers might stop owning property this year, a new study has found.
According to iammoving.com, 18 per cent of those planning a move are now thinking of selling up and going into rented accommodation.
Reports that house prices are falling is a factor in this trend - with money-savvy householders looking to sell up while the market is still strong and to buy after property becomes cheaper.
However, 14 per cent of movers said that they were dropping out of the property market due to their own money worries.
Smaller groups are also planning to move into the rental market due to emigrating or a relationship coming to an end.
Chairman of iammoving.com Simon Preston said: "You expect people to consider renting when the market is falling because there is a chance to make money.
"[However] much of this is down to the problems in the housing market and the fact that people are struggling financially."
