Online shopping: Sales increase in credit crunch
Consumers, attempting to find extra cash to pay off debt in the credit crunch, are going online to buy goods at cheaper prices.
According to online retail guide Shopsafe.co.uk, penny-pinching Britons have driven up online sales.
This is supported by a study from IMRG Capgemini, which found that internet shopping was up 46 per cent last month compared to a year ago.
What's more, 15 per cent of total UK retail purchases for 2007 were made online - where discounts can often be found.
Director of Shopsafe.co.uk Simon Crisp said: "Especially in these times of the credit crunch, people are just looking for bargains and for deals and online is the place to get it."
He added: "This year certainly people are looking for bargains online; theyre looking to squeeze every penny out of their budget
it's going to be fashion and household goods [that will continue to see strong sales]."
