Sainsbury's: Fatigue leads to road accidents

The new government road safety campaign has received strong backing from Sainsbury's Bank.

Earlier this week, road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick launched the scheme, which encourages drivers to take regular breaks if they feel fatigued.

As well as lowering potential road accident rates, the campaign could also have a beneficial effect on personal finances.

Not becoming involved in a crash due to taking extra care will protect many no claims bonuses - leaving more funds left over to pay off debt and to service homeowner loans.

Car insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank Joanne Mallon said: "We're delighted to see the government's new initiative highlighting the dangers associated with driving combined with tiredness.

"It can be tempting for motorists on long journeys to just push on through the tiredness, but taking at least the recommended break of 15 minutes every two hours could be the difference between having an accident or arriving safely."

Recent research from the insurance provider has shown that just over two-thirds (68 per cent) of drivers practice some form of dangerous driving in any given month.
