New parking rules introduced
New laws affecting Britain's much-loathed parking attendants have come into force today.
Drivers are to be given more recourse to challenge parking fines levied by the wardens - who are now to be known as "civil enforcement engineers" - under the legislation.
As well as the introduction of the new adjudicators, the Traffic Penalty Tribunal, drivers will also welcome the directive that clamping cars is also now only to be used as a last resort by authorities for persistent offenders.
Even more encouragingly, wardens are to now be instructed by local authorities that they must have "clear evidence" of a vehicle breaking road laws before they issue a fine.
Commenting, transport minister Rosie Winterton said: "Parking rules exist to help beat congestion and improve road safety.
"These regulations will help make parking enforcement fairer, clearer and more open."
