Online shopping advice offered
Cost-conscious internet shoppers must always check that they are buying from websites which comply with consumer protection laws, Shopsafe has said.
The director of the consumer guide added that consumers should always use their credit card online - a recommendation often made because it is simpler to cancel than a current account should fraudulent activity occur.
Concerns over the financial safety of this group of shoppers have grown as the popularity of online transactions rises - with a 46 per cent year on year rise in internet retail marked last month by consultants IMRG Capgemini.
Moreover, across 2007 a total of £46.6 billion was spent in the UK in the sector - itself a 54 per cent increase over 2006.
Director of Shopsafe Simon Crisp advised: "Use a safe website thats been recommended to you so its one thats got a badge of approval."
He added: "What we would recommend for people is to always use your credit card online."
