Phone charges case thrown out
A campaigning grandmother has suffered a setback in her legal battle with BT over phone charges.
Ros Fernihough said that the £4.50 per quarter charge for customers who chose not to pay their bills by direct debit was unfair.
Many who do not pay in this way are on low incomes and do not have a bank account - meaning that the extra levy can be damaging to finances and can stymie attempts to pay off debt.
However, district judge Michael Ellery at Walsall County Court labelled the charges "fair" and "reasonable".
Speaking to GMTV, Ms Fernihough said that she would continue her fight against BT.
"£4.50 may not be much to someone who is working with a reasonable job but if you are on a state pension it is crucial," she commented.
