Speeders warned over car insurance
Drivers with prior motoring convictions can expect significantly higher car costs, the Daily Mail reports.
Commonly, penalties such as fines and points on a driver's licence are given for offences such as speeding and using a mobile phone handset while on the move.
The financial costs of the convictions also spread to future car insurance premiums - with providers charging more to this group.
Stuart Southern, convicted of speeding and going through a red light last year, told the newspaper that he was "shocked" at the price rise when he last reapplied for cover.
"I was fined for both offences and the points on my licence mean paying extra for my insurance for years," he complained.
Points added to offenders' licences remain on records for a minimum of three years.
Over two million convictions for speeding are made in the UK every year.
