Moneywise challenges chancellor to money test

The chancellor of the exchequer has been issued a personal finance challenge by moneywise.co.uk.

According to the financial website, Alistair Darling should be made to sit a test designed for 16-year-old pupils studying 'money matters' at school.

Moneywise.co.uk is currently campaigning for such personal finance classes to be put on the National Curriculum - and issued the challenge to the chancellor in order to raise awareness of the issue.

The website's editor, Rachel Lacey, said: "We feel that when the chancellor looks at fiscal issues he should consider the needs of tomorrow's consumers as much as today's.

"Ofsted's recent damning indictment of the state of personal finance education in our schools confirmed that it is an issue which must be addressed."

In addition to the chancellor, Moneywise.co.uk is also calling for such high-profile figures inn the world of business and current affairs - such as Sir Trevor McDonald and Natasha Kaplinsky - to sit the test.
