Airline costs 'rising'
A new price-control policy in British airports is to hit consumers in the pocket, Reuters reports.
Price rises are set to be imposed by operator BAA on the landing fees which airports charge airlines in a deal with the Civil Aviation Authority, which lasts until 2013.
Under the terms of the deal, these fees will rise by an average of 23.5 per cent in real terms at Heathrow - with Gatwick prices rising by 21 per cent.
It is anticipated that these increases will then be passed on to the consumer - making air travel much more expensive.
In order to prevent the price rises from causing too much financial pain, the news agency recommended that fliers shop around for the best deals on the internet.
Internet air ticket aggregators used by UK holidaymakers include Airline-network.co.uk, Cheapflights.co.uk and Flightsdirect.com.
