Summertime thefts warning from insurance firm
Garden thefts will go up over summertime, Halifax has warned.
According to the firm, which also provides personal loans, the burglaries are 52 per cent higher in summer, when compared to the winter.
Moreover, the average claim amount was also found to vary seasonally - with a 27 per cent increase over the cold months.
Head of insurance underwriting at Halifax, David Rochester, said: "It is important that people take measures to secure their property outside as well as indoors, and remember that equipment and furniture outside the home can add up.
"Items thieves typically look for include patio furniture, bicycles, garden ornaments and barbecues, so it is important to keep these items secured or locked away when not in use, and ensure your home insurance policy includes cover for garden theft."
Garden theft 'hot spots' were also identified by the home insurance firm - with Sheffield, Slough and Sunderland found to be the three worst areas in the country.
