Brits 'drive over 8,000 miles a year'
Car-loving Britons drive enough across their lifetimes to circle the globe over 20 times, a new study from Confused.com has found.
According to the insurance website, the potential car loans customers cover 8,756 miles in their cars each year between the ages of 17 and 75.
Driving to and from work was found to be take up biggest single proportion of this total - coming to 3,442 miles a year on average.
The school run, errands, visiting friends and going on holiday also contributed, Confused.com said.
Managing director at the site, Debra Williams, added: "We all have to get from A to B but its amazing to see how many miles we clock up in our lifetimes.
"The survey shows just how much we all rely on our cars for transport and demonstrates how integral cars have become in our day to day lives."
Potential costs of racking up many miles on the road were also analysed by Confused.com - with those covering over 25,000 annually saving around £80 on their annual insurance premium.
However, in many cases this cost saving is counterbalanced by the extra petrol and maintenance needed for cars which are used a lot.
