Greener car insurance 'should be encouraged'
Eco-friendly car insurance should be encouraged by providers, More Than has claimed.
Consumer worries about climate change, combined with advances in motoring technology, have increased the popularity of 'greener' cars such as hybrid models.
Figures from uSwitch released earlier this year also show that sales of green cars rose by 70 per cent in the UK last year.
However, the sector has much growing to do before it makes a significant mark on the industry as a whole - with the website also predicting that it will cover just 0.2 per cent of cars on the road by the end of this year.
Nevertheless, special car insurance packages providing incentives for driving greener cars such as premiums discounts are anticipated by More Than to gain in popularity.
Nick Dear, external communications consultant at the firm, said: "[The package will] generally save between three and 15 per cent, so hopefully that will encourage people out of gas-guzzlers and into more environmentally friendly hybrids."
He added: "Hopefully educating and encouraging people to drive in more environmentally friendly ways will be enough to get them to switch."
