Long haul is best value for holidays, firm finds
Britons looking to make their holidays as cash-efficient as possible should consider going long haul, the Post Office has found.
In its annual What the Pound Buys Abroad study, the postage and financial services provider found that destinations such as South Africa, Dubai and New York represented good value for holidaymakers.
This is because the pound has performed strongly against local currencies in these territories across the year, particularly when compared with sterling's comparative weakening against the euro.
Therefore, consumers hoping to bag some bargains while abroad will be much better placed to save money on goods by converting their pounds into currencies such as the South African rand and Dubai's dirham.
Head of travel at the Post Office Helen Warburton said: "New York and Dubai are good bets for holidaymakers who want to restrict travel time to below eight hours.
"When time is not a concern, South Africa and Jamaica are great value destinations."
